Essential Oils: The Power of Plants

Essential oils can be used in countless applications. I’ve included here some basic information in addition to a few really cool recipes to try for your next at home spa treatment.

Common Uses

Diffuser

Add a few drops of essential oil to water in a diffuser and enjoy some aromatherapy!

Topical

Add a few drops to sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, argan oil, moringa oil or unscented lotion and apply topically. Undiluted essential oils are powerful so topical use requires a carrier medium. The possibilities are endless here for at home spa ideas but to name a few: body oil, bath oil, massage oil, aromatherapy lotion and body scrub.

Prebath Body Oils

Not that widely known about or commonly utilized, but should be! Essential oils are mixed with a carrier oil like above but applied prior to stepping into the bath. These are essential oil at home spa treatments that work double time. Benefits achieved both by being absorbed into the body through the skin in addition to aromatherapy while in the tub! You don’t need to apply lotion after, just massage in prebath oil after stepping out of the tub for a luxurious glow.

Other nice at home spa ideas to try

Foot spa treatment

Fill a basin full of perfect temp hot water that you can put your feet into. Add 4-5 drops of your favorite essential oil (blend or not, you choose). Put a golf ball under both feet. Roll the golf balls under the soles of your feet for a soothing foot massage, reflexology treatment and amazing experience all in all. This at home spa treatment helps immensely after a long day. If you have been sitting at a computer and feel extra tense, focus rolling the golf ball right in the center of the ball of the feet for localized trigger point relief of nervous system-related tension (brachial plexus). Go through this treatment slowly and breath deeply for optimal results. Follow with massaging the following essential oil blend into your feet and its like that stressful day (or any stressful day for that matter) never happened.

Foot Massage Treatment Essential Oil blend

Blend essential oils together first. Then dilute 5 drops of essential oil blend with 1 tsp jojoba. Massage into feet after reflexology foot soak.

Skin Calming Body Scrub

Mix essential oils first, then add oil and combine. Lastly add sugar to the mix and scrub away!
